GOODNIGHT LALLY

GOODNIGHT LALLY
1 ounce Licor 43
1 ounce cognac
6 ounces very strong, hot, black coffee
Whipped cream

I was dragging this Sunday and needed some strong coffee. Well, the concept of strong coffee was redefined for me with the GOODNIGHT LALLY cocktail. To make it, I started with some strong, black coffee. I put cognac and Licor 43 in the measurement above into a coffee mug, stirred them together, filled the rest of the mug up with coffee and topped it off with some whipped cream.

It looks innocent enough, but the GOODNIGHT LALLY packs a wallop. It’s my first cocktail with Licor 43, a yellow liquor from Spain containing 43 secret ingredients that are closely guarded by the Zamora Family. Licor 43has a strong vanilla taste and it is good straight as a dessert drink. When mixed with coffee and cognac, it’s even better. The Licor 43 brought a sweetness to the drink that was much needed.

My GOODNIGHT LALLY recipe was adapted from In the Land of Cocktails, a favorite cocktail book of mine written by two New Orleans cocktail chicks. In their recipe, they coat the outside of a glass mug with superfine sugar and make the cocktail look like a snowglobe. That sounded messy and like too much work to me today, but try it if you are feeling creative. You just lightly wet the outside of a glass mug with water and roll it through superfine sugar to lightly coat it. Anyway you drink it, the GOODNIGHT LALLY won’t disappoint.

Drink Up^
