RUM PUNCH

RUM PUNCH
½ measure fresh lime juice
½ measure superfine sugar
2 measures rum
3 measures water
Ground nutmeg for garnish

Poor Patriots fans; must be a hard Monday for them. The Super bowl loss has to sting. So tonight’s cocktail, which is popular among Bostonites, is for all those Patriots fans crying in their RUM PUNCH as they contemplate punching the Giants fans.

To make the RUM PUNCH, you don’t have to use a shaker, but I did because I’ve learned that shaking anything in ice makes it taste better. I mixed the above measurements of fresh lime juice, superfine sugar, Bacardi rum, and water with ice in a shaker. I then poured the mixture into a glass with ice. Lastly — and here’s the weird part — I sprinkled some nutmeg on top.

I was afraid the nutmeg, which I probably put on way too generously, would ruin the whole drink. But in reality the nutmeg is what made the RUM PUNCH so great. It gave what otherwise is just supped up lime juice, a gritty, interesting taste. The RUM PUNCH cocktail was refreshing, sweet, and I could pour many down my gullet without too much effort. And I’m not even a Patriots fan.

Drink Up^
